Liebherr makes island debut
The only crane hire company on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland has taken delivery of its first-ever Liebherr model.
The LTM1060-3.1 joined the fleet at John Maciver & Son and is working on lifting duties ranging from construction to ship loading.
Managing Director Iain Maciver said a crucial factor in the purchasing decision was the reliability of Liebherr’s aftermarket performance. “Being so far from the mainland, we need a manufacturer who can provide reliable support, even in remote locations.”
The LTM 1060-3.1 is a three-axle model and features a special method of dividing the ballast slabs, allowing a wide range of driving configurations to be achieved quickly and easily. ECOmode and ECOdrive reduce operating costs and despite its compact dimensions, the crane offers a maximum load capacity of 60t, a 63m hoist height and 48m radius.
THE CUSTOMER Founded in 1960, John Maciver & Sons Ltd provides crane and plant hire across the Western Isles and runs cranes from 35t–100t. In 2009 it set up sister company Hebridean Plant Hire, a self-drive plant and small tool hire operation.
