Scottish crane hire Bernard Hunter has recently taken delivery of its latest Liebherr crane...the 35th to be purchased from the German manufacturer in a relationship spanning 27 years.
The new arrival is an LTM1110-5.1 with load capacity of 110t and 60-metre telescopic boom and follows last year’s delivery of the Edinburgh company’s flagship 700-tonner which represented the biggest single investment in its 75-year history.
The LTM 1110-5.1 is the smallest and latest five-axle telescopic mobile crane in the Liebherr range but cancarry all its 29 tonnes of counterweight including double fly jib on UK roads. Bernard Hunter’s model features a19-metre double fly jib complete with adjustable offset. The crane has also been specified with Liebherr’s VarioBase® system and full remote-control capability of the superstructure functions.
Overseeing the introduction of the crane into the Hunter fleet was Lyle Sibbald, Liebherr’s recently appointed crane sales manager for Scotland and the north of England.
Mark Rafferty, Managing Director, said: ‘It’s a pleasure to bring the new 110t mobile crane into our fleet. The crane offers our clients excellent capacity on the 5-axlecarrier range. Without the need for additional counterweight the crane brings many environmental benefits with the removal of additional support vehicles on the road. This greatly helps Bernard Hunter reduce our carbon footprint and work towards a net zero carbon future.’
Formed in 1946, the company is also involved in metal processing and recycling as well as specialised vacuum equipment for glass lifting. It runs Liebherrs with capacities from 40 tonnes upwards in its extensive crane fleet.
A new book tracing the company’s history recalls how the fledgling operation always aspired to have a Liebherr in its fleet: ‘Considered the Rolls Royce of cranes, the Liebherr marque was initially out of Bernard Hunter’s price range, but the company knew you got what you paid for with the brand.’
On January 22nd, 1995, Hunter finally achieved its goal when it took delivery of a brand-new LTM1050.4 all-terrain mobile crane. And a lasting business partnership was created.
